Muslim pilgrims pelting the Jamarat pillars during the 11th Day of Dhul-Hijja in Mina

Step 1: Performing Congregational Prayers

Pilgrims should regularly offer the five daily obligatory prayers in congregation while staying in Mina.

Step 2: Reciting Takbeer

During the Days of Tashreeq (11th, 12th, and 13th of Dhul-Hijja), recite Takbeer (“ALLAHU AKBAR”) frequently after every prescribed prayer (Takbeer Muqayyad). General Takbeer (Takbeer Mutlaq) should also be recited continuously at any time and place.

Step 3: Timing and Sequence for Pelting the Jamarat

Pelting the three Jamarat pillars begins after midday (Zawal). The sequence must be followed strictly: start with the Small Jamarat (Jamarat al-Sughra), proceed to the Middle Jamarat (Jamarat al-Wusta), and finish with the Large Jamarat (Jamarat al-Aqaba).

Step 4: Number of Pebbles

Throw seven individual pebbles at each of the three Jamarat pillars successively, reciting Takbeer with each throw.

Step 5: Supplication After the Small Jamarat

After pelting the Small Jamarat, step aside, turn facing the Qibla with the Small Jamarat to your left and Masjid al-Khaif to your right, and engage in lengthy supplication (Dua), following the practice of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ.

Step 6: Supplication After the Middle Jamarat

After pelting the Middle Jamarat, position it on your right, face the Qibla, and spend extended time in earnest prayer and supplication.

Step 7: Departure After Jamarat Al-Aqaba

Upon throwing the seven pebbles at the Large Jamarat (Jamarat Al-Aqaba), leave the area immediately without stopping to pray or supplicate.

Step 8: Flexibility for Nighttime Pelting

If necessary due to extreme heat, illness, or heavy crowds, pelting during the night hours is permissible.

Step 9: Overnight Stay in Mina

Return to your camp to spend the night resting in Mina as required.
