Explanation
Rahman derives from the root ra-haa-meem (ر-ح-م), which denotes “ar-riqqah wal-ta’aruf,” or a combination of tenderness and compassion. It is implied by the name “Ar-Rahman” that ALLAH is the Most Merciful and Compassionate and that His mercy extends to every living thing.
The Holy Qur’an uses the Name of ALLAH – Ar-Rahman 57 times, and we begin our journey to know Almighty ALLAH through His Mercy rather than with Names that indicate Majesty and Strength.
One of the most significant qualities of ALLAH is mercy. No matter a person’s faith, race, or background, ALLAH mercy is regarded as the source of all blessings and is constantly showered upon His creation. No matter how many mistakes a person has made, ALLAH is always willing to forgive them, heal them, and guide them, as the name “Ar-Rahman” provides as a reminder to believers.
As implied by the name “Ar-Rahman,” ALLAH mercy is boundless and undeserved. It has no boundaries and encompasses every aspect of His creation, including people, animals, and the natural world. For those who put their faith in ALLAH and His mercy and forgiveness, this quality of His is a source of comfort and hope.
Numerous verses in the Quran highlight ALLAH attribute of mercy, including:
Say, “In the bounty of ALLAH and in His mercy – in that let them rejoice; it is better than what they accumulate.” (Quran 10:58)
Indeed ALLAH is, to the people, Kind and Merciful. (Quran 2:143)
The best way to become a manifestation of ALLAH Rahma is to study the life of the Prophet ﷺ and follow his example.
