Explanation
ALLAH is Al-Kabeer, The One whose essence is the perfection of greatness, The One who is incomparably great, The One whose greatness is beyond measure, The One whose nature is Greatness, The One whose own essence is unimaginably great perfection.
The root word k-b-r has various classical Arabic connotations such as to be great in rank, dignity, nobility, majesty, to be great in size, vast, formidable, to be great in age, oldest, to be great in learning, most knowing, and to have rights above all others. Kabir is a less intensive form that honors the One as being the essence of greatness.
Al-Kabeer, *Al-Akbar, and Al-Mutakabbir *(all from the same root) teach us where to look. We sometimes see things as huge, and impossible to surmount. We feel broken by our worries. We might be oppressed, and view our oppressor as great and strong. But we remind ourselves: Anything that seems big or great, ALLAH is greater. This should fill us with strength and calm. It should remove any fear we have.
